Chinua Achebe live from New York, Sujata Bhatt, Maureen Freely, Blake Morrison and Derek Walcott, introduced by Daljit Nagra

Derek WalcottThe dazzling finale of Free the Word! 2010 presents a glittering array of revolutionary writers. Daljit Nagra will be joined by Sujata Bhatt, one of the first female Indian poets to have been recognised internationally, Maureen Freely, a novelist whose translations of Orhan Pamuk have finally brought Turkish literature to a worldwide stage and Blake Morrison, who is widely hailed as a founder of the genre of life writing. The second half brings us Nobel laureate Derek Walcott, whose lyrical verse has transformed the nature of poetry and, via a live satellite link from New York, comes the father of African writing, Chinua Achebe. Also a celebration of the 80th birthdays of Achebe and Walcott, what better way to end Free the Word!
