Support International PEN

International PEN is the only world writers association; with 145 Centres in 104 countries and consultative status at UNESCO and the United Nations, it is the voice of international literature.

International PEN is a membership organisation composed of individuals professionally engaged in writing and includes many of the greatest authors as well as the thought leaders of today. Our work benefits both readers and writers by seeking to both promote literature and to remove the barriers to engaging with reading and writing.

The human rights work of International PEN, in particular the defence of freedom of expression carried out in part through our Writers in Prison Committee, is internationally renowned for the influence that our members bring to assisting and supporting writers under threat due to what they have written or said. However, our programmes also promote a love of reading, through learning and outreach programmes, supporting access to literature through publishing and distribution, as well as promoting literature through international literary festivals, events and publications.

International PEN receives no regular governmental support and is reliant upon the membership contributions of its' Centres and its donors for income.

Current supporters include Bloomberg LP, Clifford Chance, Pentagram, SIDA, Oxfam Novib, Fritt Ord, Arts Council England, The Foyle Foundation, The John S Cohen Foundation, The Sigrid Rausing Trust, TrustAfrica, UNESCO.

There are a number of ways in which you can become more involved in the work of International PEN, as a company, trust or individual, either through association with a specific aspect of our work, or through a broad ranging partnership. International PEN is a registered UK Charity, no. 1117088 and also has the facility to receive donations from the United States.
